Across the Pacific Coast, unsustainable ocean fishing is pushing our salmon, orcas, and coastal communities toward a breaking point. Behind this crisis are the countless untold stories of real people, real rivers, and real losses that deserve to be heard. Voices from the Coast, the official blog of the Let Our Salmon Come Home campaign, is where those stories find their voice.
From the Sacramento to the Yukon, salmon populations are being pushed toward extinction, orca whales are starving, and coastal communities and fishing families are struggling to cope. While policymakers authorize the overharvest of our salmon in the ocean, coastal communities and economies that have relied upon the return of salmon for generations to millennia are left with little to nothing. The numbers tell part of the story—but the people living it tell the rest.
Voices from the Coast is where that human story unfolds. In this blog, you’ll find:
- Perspectives from across the Pacific Coast: from fishers, Tribal members and First Nations, scientists, conservationists, and coastal community members spanning California to Alaska
- Updates on the movement: we’ll keep you informed on critical policy renegotiations, what’s at stake, ways to take action, and how the campaign is advancing
- The science behind the crisis: accessible breakdowns of what the research says about ocean-based salmon fisheries, salmon recovery, orca survival, and the path forward
This blog is only as powerful as the voices behind it—and we want to hear yours.
If you have a story to share—whether you’re a commercial or recreational fisher, a Tribal member facing threatened food or economic security, a scientist studying salmon or Southern Resident orcas, or a community member who has watched your local salmon population disappear—we want to hear from you.
